2025 German MotoGP Picks: Is Marc Marquez still the driver to beat?

  • What: Liqui Moly MotoGP of Germany
  • Date: Sunday, July 13, 2025

The German Grand Prix marks the 11th round of the 2025 MotoGP season, held at the legendary Sachsenring.

This 2.2-mile track is known for being one of the slowest on the calendar. It features seven consecutive left-hand turns and various undulating corners.

Marc Marquez has dominated this race, claiming victory eight times in a row from 2013 to 2021, and he arrives this weekend with a significant 68-point lead over his brother, Alex Marquez.

Alex, recovering from a hand injury, must pass a medical assessment before he can compete. Last year’s champion, Francesco Bagnaia, is eager to defend his title and narrow the points gap at the top.

Marc Marquez

If Marquez secures a win at Sachsenring, it would mark his fourth consecutive victory in 2025 and bring him closer to another MotoGP championship. The Ducati Lenovo rider has secured 11 victories at this track, including 8 in MotoGP.

Following two substantial crashes in the Netherlands, Marquez demonstrated remarkable resilience by winning both the Sprint and the main race.

These wins were achieved on a Repsol Honda across various models, from the top-performing bike to some of the less competitive versions.

The success seemed almost predictable, and we often showed up knowing the likely winner. However, that winning streak ended in 2021. In 2022, Márquez missed the race while recovering from surgery on his right arm.

By 2023, he faced perhaps the lowest point of his MotoGP career, crashing five times during the weekend and ultimately withdrawing from the race on Sunday morning, feeling unfit to compete.

Last year marked Márquez’s debut with the Gresini Ducati, sparking a glimmer of hope that he might be able to reclaim victory at this venue.

He approached the situation with cautious optimism but downplayed his chances, acknowledging the fierce competition for the championship between Jorge Martin and Pecco Bagnaia.

Unfortunately, his hopes were dashed when he crashed on Friday and broke a finger, affecting his performance for the weekend.

He now leads the championship, with Alex Marquez set to return after undergoing hand surgery. A motivated Marquez is always a tough competitor, and it seems he’s on track to getting closer to a seventh MotoGP title.

Marquez feels inevitable, but I don’t want to lay that much juice at -325.

Fabio Quartararo

Quartararo may be the unluckiest MotoGP rider this season.

Despite securing four pole positions, he has only managed to convert one into a strong finish at Jerez, facing crashes and mechanical failures that have hindered his performance.

The Sachsenring could offer a chance for the Yamaha star to turn things around; he won there in 2022 and finished third in the previous year.

However, he hasn’t placed in the top 12 at the German GP since then and enters this weekend in a particularly poor form and mood.

As the weeks went by, the Frenchman’s criticism of Yamaha grew, and he pushed for a winning strategy.

Quartararo has clarified that he might consider leaving at the end of next season if the V4 project does not succeed.

Given his unfortunate pattern following pole positions and his dissatisfaction with Yamaha, it’s hard to see him breaking this trend on a track where Ducati is expected to shine.

That being said at +2500, it’s definitely worth a small wager to take Quartararo to pull off the shocker.

Miguel Oliveira

MotoGP heads to the Sachsenring this week for the 2025 German Grand Prix, marking round 11 of the season and potentially the last chance for Miguel Oliveira or Jack Miller to impress Yamaha enough to secure their spots at Pramac.

Yamaha is set to finalize Pramac’s 2026 rider lineup following the German GP, with both Miller and Oliveira vying for the opportunity to partner with Toprak Razgatlioglu next year.

Yamaha currently favors Miller over Oliveira, but his recent performance has posed challenges for the team based in Iwata.

In the past six Grands Prix, Miller has only scored points in three races, finishing just once in the top 10, with a seventh-place finish at Silverstone.

Oliveira, meanwhile, has claimed points in only two of those races, although he has been recovering from a serious shoulder ligament injury.

Both riders realize the importance of performing well at Sachsenring, especially since rain is expected throughout the German GP weekend.

Should the rain materialize during the race, Oliveira may feel optimistic due to his strong performance in wet conditions at Le Mans in May, which marked his return from injury.

Although Oliveira has not yet secured a top 10 finish since joining Pramac on a two-year works Yamaha contract this season, the 30-year-old has shown great skill in wet racing.

He had a commendable outing at Sachsenring in 2024, achieving second place in the Sprint and finishing sixth in the German GP with Trackhouse Aprilia.

At +10000 Oliveira is priced correctly, I’d pass on him at this price.
