Alcaraz favored over Djokovic
Carlos Alcaraz (+220) is favored to win his third-career Madrid Open with world No. 1 Jannik Sinner set to miss his final tournament before returning from his three-month suspension. Following a shaky start to the season, the 21-year-old Spaniard has played well on clay, winning the title in Monte-Carlo and reaching the final in Barcelona.
Alcaraz falls in the same half of the draw as Novak Djokovic (+750), who’s playing at the Madrid Open for the first time in three years. The 37-year-old has won this event three times before, but hasn’t captured a Masters 1000 title since Paris 2023.

Holger Rune (+2000) defeated Alcaraz in straight sets in the Barcelona Open final, earning his third career clay title. The 21-year-old Dane snapped the Spaniard’s nine-match winning streak on clay, moving into a top 10 world ranking for the first time in over a year.
Francisco Cerundolo (+3300) took Alcaraz to three sets in the Munich semifinals and reached the quarters at last year’s Madrid Open. If the Argentinian can advance to the Round of 16, he’ll face Alexander Zverev (+1000), who he’s 2-0 against on clay.

Conditions favor big servers
Iga Swiatek (+300) and Aryna Sabalenka (+300) could be on a collision course to a third-consecutive Madrid final. The defending champion Swiatek downed her rival in three sets last year, getting revenge for a three-set loss to the Belarusian in 2023.
However, the Polish star has two glaring obstacles on her side of the draw. Her second-round opponent, Alexandra Eala, stunned her at the Miami Open. She also has a 0-6 clay-court record against Jelena Ostapenko (+2000), who’s in her quarter of the draw.

Jasmine Paolini (+5000) made two surprising runs to the French Open and Wimbledon finals last year. The 29-year-old Italian is also coming off two semifinal appearances in Miami and Stuttgart. While she lost to Sabalenka at those events, Paolina could win the whole tournament if the world No. 1 suffers an early exit.

Aryna Sabalenka (+300) won the Madrid Open in both 2021 and 2023 before losing to Swiatek in the finals last year. With her Polish rival set to encounter many landmines on her half of the draw, we like Sabalenka in a tournament that rewards big serving and power more than most clay-court events.
